“Bottom Feeders”: Cricket Australia Chairman Hits Out At Ten Over Rights Bid

It turns out that Cricket Australia (CA) was not pleased at all with Ten’s bid for the cricket broadcast rights, and sure let the network know about it.

CA recently rejected a multimillion-dollar joint bid by Ten and Nine for the rights, saying that “discussions are ongoing with other parties”.

Fairfax has since revealed that CBS executive Armando Nuñez reached out to CA chairman David Peever via email requesting a one-on-one meeting to get some more clarity on the sporting body’s decision to reject Ten’s offer.

However, Peever (pictured above) sent back a scathing reply to Nuñez, saying Ten had “completely messed this up”.

“I expected much more given our discussions and the unique position we were affording Ten. Franky, the tactics are appalling on a number of levels,” the email said.

Peever then recommended contacting CA chief executive John Sutherland, but warned Nuñez not to bring along local Ten executives to the meeting, “as I feel they are not prepared to challenge their operating model to be anything other than bottom feeders in this market”.

Fairfax reported that Ten’s meeting with Sutherland has happened, with CEO Paul Anderson in attendance, while Nuñez has received an apology from Peever over the email.
