BMW Australia has announced Alex McLean as its new general manager of BMW Marketing.
McLean (featured image) has worked at the car manufacturer since 2013, during which he served in multiple senior market roles for the Mini brand, including retail marketing specialist, CRM and digital marketing manager most recently as head of marketing across Australia and New Zealand.
Under his leadership, Mini transformed its digital strategy and customer journey which included the first online vehicle purchase for the BMW Group in Australia.
Mini also became the first premium car brand in Australia to get down with the kids and advertise on TikTok.
McLean will now be tasked with helping to drive (no pun intended) BMW brand growth while spreading awareness for its growing number of new electrified vehicles and technologies.
BMW Group Australia CEO, Wolfgang Buechel, said he looked forward to working with McLean to help further develop the BMW brand.
“He is an experienced executive with knowledge of the BMW Group brands and strong marketing expertise, both of which play a crucial role in achieving our goal to strengthen our brand’s position in the Australian premium automotive segment,” he added.
McLean said he was excited by the opportunity to work with one of the “greatest global brands”.
“The BMW roundel is steeped in motoring history, with more than 100 years of stories to tell, yet it has an incredible future-oriented approach focused on sustainable mobility,” he said.
“I look forward to further enhancing the brand during my tenure and launching new products and technologies that start with the fully electric BMW iX3, iX and i4.”
McLean replaces Tony Sesto who recently left the company after 12 years of service.
The change came into effect from 1 January 2022.
