The Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter appeared on the June cover of British Vogue to wide-spread acclaim as she discussed her experiences as an artist.

Eilish, who for a number of years has had characteristic green and black hair, recently unveiled a new blonde hairdo on Instagram. It became the quickest picture ever to reach one million likes.

Her aesthetic has traditionally included baggy skater-esque clothes, which the 19-year-old has explained as being both an expression of her personal style, and an effort also to stop people sexualising her.

On the Vogue cover, Eilish appears in a pin-up-esque outfit, wearing a pink corset and nude slip. The aesthetic change is also a preparation for her forthcoming album.

Speaking to the publication, Eilish said, “Don’t make me not a role model because you’re turned on by me.”

“Young women, we’re expected to know and do everything, and be everyone’s mom when we’re like, 15.”

“Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore. If I am, then I’m proud,” she explained.

“Me and all the girls are hoes, and f**k it, y’know? Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”

The interview, and the photoshoot itself, have received widespread praise on social media.

BILLIE EILISH COULD RUN ME OVER AND CALL ME UGLY AND SET ME ON FIRE AND I WOULD STILL BOW DOWN TO HER AND GIVE HER ALL MY MONEY
