Ben Robert-Smith’s Defamation trial is set to resume in February.
As the year comes to a close, change is on the horizon and yet some things will follow us into the new year, like the pandemic and Robert-Smith’s defamation case.
The Sydney Morning Herald, has reported that Justice Anthony Besanko has ordered that the trial will commence again in Sydney on February second.
Roberts-Smith. is a former SAS Solider and seven employee, who was also famously awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia
Roberts-Smith is currently suing The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
Interestingly the newsworthy trial was forced to hit pause during the peak of the pandemic, when Sydney was in the middle of a lockdown and the headline-making trial has yet to resume.
Basically, the trial had to pause because it was no longer COVID-19 safe for it to continue, particularly because witnesses were being called.
In case you aren’t up to date, Roberts-Smith is suing The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times, all media outlets are opting with a truth defence, two of which are owned by Nine.
Robert Smith is suing the publications because of articles written about him that questioned his conduct and hero status.
Of course, now there is a new trial date set, the public will learn more and more about these claims.
