Network Ten’s new game show kicked off its first episode last night, but the overall reception from viewers wasn’t too flash.

Pointless drew an audience of 493,000 last night at 6pm across all three of Network Ten’s channels.

However, many viewers took to social media to leave some savage criticism about the show’s format as well as the chemistry between hosts Dr Andrew Rochford and Mark Humphries.

And it appears Ten’s decision to rest Family Feud and replace it with Pointless may have backfired, with a chorus of viewers calling for Grant Denyer’s return.

I don’t do TV reviews but I’ll make an exception for #pointless #PointlessAU – It is shit. It’s clunky, it’s compressed and has none of the feels of the British version. I give it a month.

#pointlessAU  It’s the little things I miss, the chats with the contestants, What do you do? You’re retired, what did you do? The best thing about Pointless is the connection between the hosts and the contestants. You’re missing that.

— Love in the time of Chullora (@Mrs_Rittenhouse) July 23, 2018

Where is Grant Denyer when a quiz show needs him? @grantdenyer #pointlessAU

— Mark (@kramsirrom) July 23, 2018

How exactly was Family Feud replaced with #PointlessAU? I’d rather watch paint dry at this point

— Tara Pokarier (@tara_ashli) July 23, 2018

Really? Why would you want to host a pointless show? I’m not trying to be rude but I couldn’t sit through the rest of the show. Please bring Grant Denier back! The show #PointlessAU#PointlessAustralia is well yeah Pointless! No character in hosts #nofun#boring!

— Rosa Perry (@rosaperry) July 23, 2018

The set makes Andrew look like:

* Has a large pair of testicles#PointlessAU pic.twitter.com/TV5UBHkHyG

#PointlessAU

I watched the Network 10 remake of the UK show “Pointless” starring my distant UK cousin @XanderArmstrong to say the Network 10 version is “worthless” is an understatement – it is a completely pointless remake. The original on ABC still the best! pic.twitter.com/bErDsdgcdX

— TOM IN OZ (@SirThomasWynne) July 23, 2018

I’m passionate about this! @channelten Please bring @grantdenyer back #bringbackthefued ! The show #PointlessAU #PointlessAustralia is yeah Pointless! U had it on 3 Ch #flop No character hosts #nofun #boring! @grantdenyer makes me cry laughing! Isn’t that what makes a good show?

— Rosa Perry (@rosaperry) July 23, 2018

Pointless is starting to seem pointless to watch!  #pointlessAU

— Mark (@kramsirrom) July 23, 2018

Yep just as I thought, the show #pointlessAU is pointless…channel changed!! Sorry @channelten but bring back #FamilyFeudAU

— Katie Maree (@ricekat79) July 23, 2018

Ch10…. you made a mistake replacing #FamilyFeudAU with #PointlessAU.

— Noëlle  ️‍ (@OZzeeGal) July 23, 2018

#PointlessAU has zero excitement! #flop Two hosts have got nothing on @grantdenyer #bringbackthefued There is no connection, no spark, no love between hosts and audience like @grantdenyer Pointles boring show.

— Rosa Perry (@rosaperry) July 23, 2018

Alright. Can we axe #PointlessAU? I’ve only watched 2 minutes of it and it’s awfully boring.

— Titiana Booberini (@ebboob) July 23, 2018

Perhaps Humphries saw the criticism coming, having posted a tweet prior to the show’s debut calling for viewers to ” be gentle”.

It’s the first episode of @PointlessAU tonight. Hope you enjoy it, and for those who don’t, have fun shitting on it. Be gentle, it’s my first time. 6pm on Ten. pic.twitter.com/yDW4cEyZ4Q

B&T has contacted Ten for comment.
