“It’s never been more important to buy Australian than right now.”
That’s the message from Australian Made in its new advertising campaign, which nods to the famous Buy Australian ad from the 1980s, which featured the likes of Meadow Lea.
The new campaign will launch on Monday, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
The government-backed campaign encourages Australians to buy local in a bid to minimise the economic harm stemming from COVID-19.
It comes as new research suggests that the use of Australian-made products for government contracts – particular high-profile projects like the Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment and Sydney Fish Markets renovations – could generate 53,000 new jobs and put $3.5 billion into the economy.
The Australian Consumers’ Association first advised consumers to ‘Buy Australian’ in a 1987 campaign.
The Australian Government first commissioned the creation of the Australian Made logo in 1986 and was launched by then Prime Minister Bob Hawke.
It was administered by the Advance Australia Foundation for the next 10 years.
