Origin Energy has retained Atomic 212° following a competitive pitch, B&T understands.
The Publicis Groupe agency has been Origin’s media planning and buying agency for the past 14 years.
Origin Energy began reviewing its media buying requirements last year in a protracted process that lasted more than six months.
Agencies that were shortlisted included Accenture Song and PHD.
B&T understands the remit includes media planning, strategy and buying across offline and digital media, but does not include search and social media, which is handled internally.
Origin Energy is estimated to spend around $15 million on media, and is a big investor in sport sponsorships, including netball.
Last year, it secured a multi-million dollar three-year deal to sponsor Australian cricket ahead of the Ashes, including the men’s and women’s national teams, the Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Atomic 212° declined to comment on the review, while Origin Energy did not respond to B&T ahead of publishing.
