We all know one – the overly committed sports fan that loves their team so much nothing else in life appears to matter other than next weekend’s game.
And that’s the very premise of new work for sportswear giant Adidas, who’s just unveiled a wonderful ode to the sports obsessed fan via its sponsorship of English EPL club Arsenal, all while discreetly flogging the club’s latest strip (or team jersey) to fans.
At three-and-a-half minutes long, the spot features diehard Arsenal fan “Len” (played by actor Mensah Bediako) who’s so obsessed with the Arsenal Football Club and football generally he named his (seemingly less than impressed) daughter after Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
The ultra clever spot’s the work of London agency Iris Worldwide and, for the uninitiated, features a cavalcade of past and present Arsenal stars.
There’s Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp who played for the club from 1995-2006. Sol Campbell who played from 2001-2006. Ray Parlour who played for Arsenal from 1992-2004. And current Arsenal coach (manager) Mikel Arteta.
Also featured – and in on the gag – are current Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey. And players from the women’s team – Vivianne Miedema, Leah Williamson and Kim Little.
The film launched a week ago across Adidas and Arsenal social media channels, with views over one million so far.
