Nova 100’s 12 year breakfast program, Hughesy and Kate, is coming to an end with both presenters deciding to leave the station.
Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek were the first voices heard on the DMG Radio station when it launched in December 2001.
The duo announced their decision on air this morning
Nova 100 offered the pair a new contract but the team decided to call time on their show with their last broadcast scheduled for the morning of Friday, November 29.
“We’ve had so much fun since 2001. It’s has been a joy to come to work. It’s been a joy to work with you Katie. I have not had one boring day in 12 years,” Hughes said.
Langbroek added: “It is not a decision that we came to easily, as we love what we do, but we feel good about it. I love Nova and I love you Hughesy but I love sleep more!”
The high-rating breakfast duo took 8.3% of all Melbourne breakfast radio listeners in fifth radio survey of the year, behind just Fox FM (8.4%) and Triple M (8.9%) in FM radio.
Helen Davies, general manager Nova 100, said: “Hughesy & Kate are truly incredible talents and we have been honoured to share their lives for the last 12 years. There’s a lot of celebrating to do between now and their final show which will deservedly be a momentous send off.”
During the September survey break a ‘best of Hughesy & Kate’ will run to celebrate the show’s 12 years and 2,800 shows.
The station said announcements about Nova 100’s breakfast plans for 2014 will be made in due course.
