DoorDash has extended Wavemaker’s remit, with the WPP Media shop becoming its first ever global media agency.
The win builds on Wavemaker’s six-year partnership with the food delivery service in Australia and New Zealand.
WPP Media’s global appointment consolidates media across DoorDash’s brand portfolio in more than 40 markets worldwide via Deliveroo and Wolt. WPP Media has looked after the media duties in the US and Canada for eight-years.
Following a competitive review of its agency partnerships, DoorDash selected WPP Media. The WPP Media team will work in close partnership with each brand’s in-house media and marketing teams on a global scale.
During the eight year partnership, WPP Media has helped build DoorDash’s first national media campaigns as a pre-IPO start-up, expanded its restaurant delivery service, and has helped it enter new markets and reach new audiences.
“As our brand has expanded globally, we’ve evolved to meet the moment in every way, including how we approach media. WPP has been our partner for DoorDash across the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and we’ve seen firsthand what they can do at scale. We’re excited to expand that partnership across DoorDash, Deliveroo, and Wolt, ensuring we operate with a unified strategy globally, without losing the nuance that makes each market’s approach unique and locally relevant,” said Tim Castree, chief marketing Officer, DoorDash.
Here in Australia, Wavemaker won DoorDash’s media account in 2020 shortly after it expanded its delivery business in Australia.
Most recently, DoorDash unveiled its biggest Australian campaign to date with Wavemaker and DDB Sydney (which has since been retired into Clemenger BBDO).
Sister agency EssenceMediacom handles Uber Eats media planning and buying.
EssenceMediacom handles more than $200 million in media billings for Uber across the APAC region in a relationship that began in 2017.
“We’re proud of the trust DoorDash is placing in us to continue accelerating their growth. Combining our global scale and local expertise with an operating model built around DoorDash’s own data and proprietary intelligence and delivered through WPP Open and Open Intelligence will help DoorDash move faster, understand consumers better, and drive measurable, incremental growth in every market,” said Brian Lesser, CEO of WPP Media.
The expanded partnership will take effect in early 2027.
