Vevo, the world’s leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform, has reached a major milestone, delivering over 100 million monthly streams for the first time in Australia, a phenomenal 67% rise year-on-year. The milestone follows a whirlwind 2014 as its popularity with music and entertainment lovers, continues to rise rapidly.
The 100 million stream barrier was smashed for the second month in succession in January, clocking up a total of 101.3 million streams and representing a phenomenal 67% increase from January 2014. The majority of growth has been driven by views on mobile devices which has grown 81% since the same time last year.
In January, 8.25 million Australians watched music content through Vevo, with 46% of views on mobile, 50% on desktop and 4% on connected TVs. Hot new videos from the world’s biggest megastars including Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj have driven music fans into a frenzy as they flock to Vevo to watch their favourite stars.
Vevo has also hit a global milestone, celebrating hitting 10 billion monthly video views for the first time in January 2015. In addition, 23 videos were named Vevo CERTIFIED, each surpassing 100 million views independently. Taylor Swift is currently dominating Vevo’s charts with Blank Space, owning the top spot for the 12th consecutive week and amassing more than 440 million views. Last year, Australian singer Iggy Azalea topped ANZ’s Most Viewed Video chart, with her smash-hit track, Fancy, featuring Charli XCX.
Jonathan Hopkins, strategy and marketing director at Authentic Entertainment, which represents Vevo exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, said: “These milestone figures demonstrate the impact the platform has had on the Australian music landscape. Viewers keep coming back to Vevo thanks to its premium viewing experience and the multiple access points to the platform, with mobile performing particularly well. Advertisers value the vast scale, broad audience segments and content opportunities available to them. It’s going to be an even bigger year for Vevo and we’re buoyant about what lies ahead.”
The announcement of this milestone coincides with the launch of Vevo’s first ever radio format, Planet Vevo, which is broadcast nationally each week across Today’s Hit Network in Australia. Hosted by rising stars Dan & Maz every Sunday between 2-5pm, the show takes listeners on a round-the-world journey via Vevo’s 14 international studios, providing exclusive content from their favourite artists with exclusive news, interviews and performances.
