Publicis Media has announced its inaugural 2018 Internship Program to seek out exceptional talent from a range of universities and faculties in Sydney and Melbourne.
To reflect the increasingly diverse skill sets required in the business, candidates from science, technology, business, psychology and mathematical backgrounds have been targeted. Universities participating include Swinburne University and Monash in Melbourne and UTS, Macquarie University and University of Wollongong in Sydney.
Publicis Media and its agencies, including Starcom, Blue 449, Zenith, Spark Foundry and Performics, will share 25 interns in total and the program will run twice a year.
The interns will go through a rigorous application process, starting with students submitting a YouTube video and CV answering one of two questions: “Are you a strategic thinker or a number cruncher? Or maybe both?” and “What has been your favourite ad and why?”
Candidates will then attend a selection day to meet representatives from the agencies and practices to educate them on the media industry and approaches. In groups they will work on a brief with mentors and coaches to be presented that day.
Successful interns will be placed in a team for four to six weeks, attending weekly “grow” sessions with agency leaders and craft specialists. They will also have accesses to the Publicis Media’s Programmatic Certification program.
Publicis Media ANZ CEO, Matt James (main photo), said: “This program is a significant step forward in developing the future talent pool and growth of Publicis Media. The sheer pace of change in technology and consumer behaviour, coupled with the needs of our clients, requires vastly different and diverse talent and our Internship Program will seek out and nurture what we hope will be the future leaders of our business.”
Publicis Media ANZ chief talent officer, Pauly Grant, said: “We have conduced extensive research into similar internship programs both here and globally and consulted across our brands and practices to develop a world’s best practice Internship Program. Today and in the future, our talent bed needs to be diverse with skill sets that go well beyond the ‘traditional’ expertise of media and advertising. We expect to attract some of the brightest students to the fast-paced, exciting world of media.”
The Internship Program has been promoted on LinkedIn, the agency’s social channels and university job boards, as well as at university events. Applications have been extended and close on Friday, 24th November, successful interns will be notified on December 11th and the program will begin on 29th January 2018.
