The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) is hosting a full-day crisis simulation event that will take communicators to the edge of a cyber meltdown and beyond.
When Disaster Strikes – Ready or Not, will be presented by a powerful line-up of presenters and mediators with crisis-forged experience, including:
- Victoria’s emergency management commissioner, Craig Lapsley
- Victoria Police’s media and corporate communications director, Merita Tabain
- Former editor-in-chief of The Age, Mark Forbes
In Melbourne on Thursday 21 June, seasoned crisis/issues management and strategic communications professionals David Hawkins and Rob Masters will lead a raft of experts in participative role plays.
Participants will move step-by-step through a simulation that starts with a logistical nightmare, then escalates with far reaching implications for privacy, financial institutions and more.
They will be immersed in a hypothetical situation but will react and respond in real time through a crisis simulation platform.
PRIA’s Victorian president, Alex Messina, said the high-impact masterclass would “help practitioners gauge their crisis preparedness”.
“You will take away insight, knowledge and skills that will allow you to sharpen your crisis communications plan tools in a cyber world,” Messina said.
“Don’t wait till you find yourself at the bottom of cliff. Join this masterclass to give your organisation the best chance to foresee, prepare and forestall disaster.
“Crises are striking organisations with alarming regularity, and their impacts are magnified by digital communications channels. Any organisation is potentially vulnerable, and its communications response can be even more critical than the incident itself.
“A whole new agility and flexibility of thinking and skills is now demanded of public relations practitioners.
