Telco behemoth Optus has denied media reports it is set to axe around 1000 jobs from April this year.
The reports come from The Australian this morning. The News Corp publication claims to have received internal documents not intended for the public which would see the telco cutting costs after snaring the media rights for the English Premiere League from Foxtel late 2015.
The exclusive in The Australian says the customer service and network roles in the consumer arm of the business is on the chopping block.
However, an Optus spokesperson has denied these allegations, saying the company is reviewing its operations.
In an email statement, the spokesperson said: “Optus continually reviews its operations to ensure it has the right organisational structure in place to achieve its goals. As our business evolves we anticipate we will need to make further changes to the way we organise ourselves to help support our business goals, but we have no specific changes to share right now.
“Although our priority is to always communicate the details of any changes directly with employees first, Optus does not have plans to make 1000 roles redundant.”
