Sydney-based tech consultancy Mobiddiction has been crowned with the Excellence in Innovation Award at the 2018 India Australia Business & Community Awards.
Held at Brisbane City Hall for the second consecutive year, the awards celebrate the Australia-India relationship while honouring migrant entrepreneurship and community leadership and aims to raise awareness of Indians in Australia and Australians in India, in a way that encourages further growth in relations between the two countries.
The glitzy affair was a true celebration of the Indian-Australian community with both Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marise Payne, and the High Commissioner of India to Australia, Dr A.M. Gondane, highlighting the great relationship between India and Australia.
They also emphasised the importance of initiatives such as the India Australia Business and Community Awards in further strengthening ties between the two nations.
With over 37 nominations and 11 finalists, the Excellence in Innovation category was a tough one and saw Mobiddiction competing against the likes of Deakin University South Asia Sports Development Initiative, in Innovation Global and Global Education Solutions.
Commenting on the win, Mobiddiction director Mike Vasavada said: “I am honoured… no business can do achieve anything without its people… this business is nothing without clients and an idea behind.
“I’m a first generation migrant. Came to Australia with a great dream about twenty or so years ago and here I am.”
The award recognises a start-up or business that has exercised innovation in contriving a new and unique business model.
IABCA platform founder Sonia Gandhi said: “The India Australia Business & Community Awards help bring our nations even closer in a rapidly dynamic and thriving culture of entrepreneurship.
“Our IABCA winners should take great pride in their accomplishments and indeed they are a great source of strength for our economy now and into the future.”
Other winners on the night included Shivali Nayak, a senior content producer at the ABC, who was named Young Professional of the Year, and Australian cricket legend Brett Lee, who was crowned with the Intercultural Innovator Award.
