Half Of Aussies Now Hooked Up To Internet-Enabled TVs, Claims Freeview

Australians are accessing more services through their internet-enabled TVs with 50 per cent of FreeviewPlus certified TVs now connected, according to TV service, FreeviewPlus.

Internet-capable TVs are now in 30 per cent of homes and this number is growing steadily as more hardware is available at competitive price points.

Freeview CEO Liz Ross said: “Australians are known as early adopters and the market is developing rapidly as we are leading the way with the level of FTA services and user experience available via FreeviewPlus.

“When we look at total panel TV sales year on year, we can see that connected TVs are growing overall and they are attributing to a greater share of TV panel sales with approximately 15 per cent share growth.”

While Ross said they are not providing figures for how many boxes have been sold, however now that many major retailers are selling the boxes, Ross said there’s growth.

“Now that all of the major manufacturers have a wide range of products in store, we are seeing accelerating growth of users and their usage.

“A broad range of new FTA experiences and services are all possible with this technology platform and we will continue to see more innovation in the near future from our FTA broadcasters.”
