GroupM Raises $60,000 For Charity

GroupM employees across nine agencies in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane spent the day volunteering their time and raising funds.

The grand total raised by the agency network was over $60,000 – all in one day.

“At GroupM, we believe our greatest strength is our common vision and goals – effective teams achieve more – we get great things done when we act with the ‘Power of One’,” said John Steedman, GroupM CEO and Chairman.

“Whether it is spending time with people less fortunate than ourselves, raising money for a particular charity, negotiating to make the dreams of sick children come true or cleaning up in a local community, this is our annual day to give back and demonstrate the Power of One.” said John.

In the Sydney office, a fundraising fair day saw mascots and representatives from a range of UN LTD charities host stalls raising on-the-spot donations and auctioning exclusive items to staff. Each GroupM agency hosted a fundraising stall ranging from cakes and crafts to a strongest man competition and a card game of chance. This was all set to a backing track of live music from kids representing Gosford based music mentoring charity Musicians Making a Difference.

In Brisbane, volunteers from MEC and MediaCom visited new online donation portal GIVit Kids’ headquarters and The Pyjama Foundation. The Brisbane team spent the day packing cartons with baby goods for teenage mums and families in need for GIVit, and helped The Pyjama Foundation prepare educational learning games and create birthday envelopes for their children in need.

In Melbourne, the team from Maxus, MEC, MediaCom, Mindshare and Xaxis volunteered at the Salvation Army Project 614 preparing meals, sorting donated clothes for their jumble sale, mowing lawns, clearing garages and sheds. Others took to the streets collecting donations from the major rail connections and intersections across Melbourne.

The UN LTD charities supported by GroupM on Power of One day included: The Sydney Story Factory, Camp Quality, The Rare Earth Foundation, GIVit Kids, Salvation Army Project 614, The Pyjama Foundation, Youth off the Streets and Musicians Making a Difference.

“To see an agency network come together like this, truly united behind our cause to UNdo youth disadvantage – is just remarkable,” said UN LTD general manager Carol Morris.

“Power of One day is a fantastic example of what is possible when a group of committed and creative individuals come together. The funds raised will enable us to impact significantly more young lives in need across Australia. A heartfelt thank you goes out to every individual at GroupM for their efforts and generosity,” said Morris.

MEC Adelaide is hosting their Power of One Day charity fundraiser for Teen Challenge today .
