Crocs Gets Its First-Ever Brand Mascot

Crocs (the unfortunately styled shoes, not the landmark industry conference Cairns Crocodiles) has turned its clog-side logo into a six-foot mascot names Niles in the lead up to its 25th anniversary in 2027.

The reveal followed weeks of teaser moments across Crocs’ marketing, including an egg that appeared in the background of TikTok Shop livestreams and was also hidden across the brand’s online platforms. There was also a 24 hour countdown to Niles’ on-camera hatching.

Niles does not speak but does wear the brand’s signature clogs. Crocs has described him as a bipedal crocodile with his own personality, flaws, interest and ambitions, traits the company believes sets him apart form conventional mascots.

Crocs has positioned the crocodile as a recurring character akin to a sitcom figure who can evolve across content.

“Niles has been hiding in plain sight for nearly 25 years. After all that time, we figured he deserved a promotion from rivet to real life. He’s funny, optimistic, and always up for an adventure, giving us a new platform to tell stories that bring people into the Crocs universe in ways a product launch simply can’t,” said Crocs, Inc. chief brand officer Terence Reilly.

“Niles represents a long-term investment in scalable intellectual property that can grow alongside our brand and community. By bringing a beloved piece of our heritage to life, we’re creating new opportunities to build emotional connections with consumers while establishing a platform that can evolve across content, experiences, entertainment and future brand extensions for years to come,” added Crocs chief marketing officer Carly Gomez.

Niles was debuted through a micro-series films at the Crocs headquarters in Colorado. It featured the mascot interacting with real employees as it tries to adjust to office life.

New episodes are set to roll out weekly on Croc’s social channels as well as Niles’ own Instagram and TikTok accounts, @nilesthecroc.

The launch is part of a broader push by the legacy footwear brand into social content, following several branded micro-drama series the brand has released throughout the year.

Crocs has joined brands including Duolingo, who use personality-driven characters as a way to win over younger audiences.
