Today, of course, is International Women’s Day. And how will you be celebrating it? A celebratory lunch? One of the many speaker engagements? Perhaps some quite reflection on the wonderful pioneering women you’ve had in your own life?
Or, according to a message emanating out of Apple Watches today, you should be getting off your bum and doing some exercise!
Female owners of the expensive gadget have been left shocked after Apple sent them a message reading: “International Women’s Day Challenge. March 8 is a day to celebrate women around the world! Earn this award by doing any workout for 20 minutes or more.”
The faux pas was quickly called out by American lawyer and writer, Jill Filipovic, who tweeted an image of the message and captioned it with, “What the women of the world really need on International Women’s Day is to… exercise for 20 minutes. #IWD2022.”
Filipovic then followed up with a further tweet asking if men had received a similar message, too. “Men of the world, did your Apple watch tell you anything about International Women’s Day, or was the directive to work out only aimed at the ladies?” she asked.
Social media soon lit up to Filipovic’s post.
One woman tweeted in response: “I cackled when I saw this this morning. I think I’m going to celebrate #IWD2022 by sitting on my ass and not doing anything for anyone but myself!”
Another added: “Same reaction. We should all be able to just sleep all day tomorrow.”
“And a reminder that you’re prettier when you smile? WTF is this?” posted another.
While a man chimed in with: “Whoa, I haven’t gotten this challenge on my watch (I’m a man). Did they really only send this to women???”
