In today’s Women in Media profile, Megan Hales, head of commercial partnerships and business development at NOVA Entertainment discuss radios biggest threat, why her role at NOVA is so unique and her proudest career moment.

There’s never a dull day ever, which is really exciting. When we look at our partnerships and what we can do there’s just so much opportunity to create and collaborate both internally and externally as well. It’s a unique role because it touches pretty much everyone within the business in some way, which is something that I love.

We recently did a campaign with AustralianSuper, “Kickstart Your Career”. We decided to take it to another level over at Carat, we built an idea from that conversation. The campaign went behind the scenes of Nova’s Red Room, which is a fantastic asset in that live music event. We went behind the scenes at the Red Room and gave experiences to five different categories- videography, partnerships, marketing, photography and fashion- and how that all plays into the execution of Nova’s Red Room. It was all new and innovative as an idea. It was uncharted territory for all of us. I think that’s where you get the best forms of collaboration because everyone’s working together on it.

One of the biggest threats to the industry is fear of change and not taking the time to understand what new trends and technology means for a business and the industry in general. I think it’s something Cathy (O’Connor CEO of Nova) is so amazing at doing is taking the time to look at the broader industry and understand the technology that’s coming through.

Radio is still such a strong medium, but it’s a business that’s continue to evolve like the digital offering and the event offering. I think while radio is the core business but you get the opportunity to learn about all these different areas. For me being a part of that process means you’re constantly learning, even though my passion for radio is still really strong.

Disclaimer: This is an amended version from the original print edition. Unfortunately, B&T claimed Orange Juice was the creative agency behind the AustralianSuper, “Kickstart Your Career” campaign, Carat was the correct agency.
