The Wilderness Society has appointed former DDB Melbourne creative director Rob Beamish to national creative & communications director.
Beamish’s role places him in the four person collaborative management team, responsible for the executive management of The Wilderness Society nationally.
Beamish will run the communications department and will spearhead the development of branding positioning work.
Additionally, the department will develop media-agnostic communications to amplify The Wilderness Society’s issues campaigning and membership and fundraising activities. Communications will also talk to a far broader cross-section of the Australian population than they did historically.
The Wilderness Society’s national campaign director, Lyndon Schneiders said: “Rob will be a key part of our unprecedented focus upon outreach, community organising and communications aimed at motivating mainstream Australians to become active in defending wilderness and controlling climate change. We need government and business to understand that middle Australia cares passionately about these matters.”
Beamish said: “I’m honoured to join The Wilderness Society. Their work has inspired me since my childhood in Tasmania, where Bob Brown found the organisation. Without hyperbole, I believe climate change and the industrialised world’s detachment from the environment is the greatest challenge humankind has faced.
“I’ve been trying to find a way to use my experience in advertising and screenwriting and my background in commerce and law to help the cause, so I was incredibly excited when I heard about the opening. I couldn’t have created a more perfectly suited role if I’d written the position description myself.”
Beamish started the role on May 25th and is based in the Wilderness Society’s Melbourne office.
