Wednesday TV Wrap: The Bachelorette Has Soft Debut

Call it a case of dating show fatigue, but Ten’s The Bachelorette has had a less than spectacular debut last night, posting 631,000 viewers across the metro cities. That’s the show’s worst debut in its four year history and is about 200,000 less than the ‘Honey Badger’ was typically averaging.

That said, the series will undoubtedly build and, as Ten has noted, it proved particularly strong in the younger demos.

Nine won Wednesday night on the back of another impressive showing by The Block (918,000). The network snared 29.3 per cent of the audience share. Seven was second with 26.9 per cent, Ten managed 20.7 per cent, the ABC had 16.7 per cnet and SBS 6.3 per cent.

Interestingly, the ABC’s comedy shows Hard Quiz (686,000) and Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (651,000) were the ABC’s top performers beating the typically resilient 7pm news bulletin that managed 644,000.

Over at Seven, its 6pm news was the most watched show of Wednesday with 988,000. The network’s other standouts were Home And Away (603,000), Highway Patrol (491,000) and 9-1-1 (449,000).

The Block aside, Nine’s 6pm news had 918,000, ACA had 837,000, US drama Manifest had 658,000 and Hot Seat pulled 467,000.

Ten’s other starters were The Project (500,000), the Aussie drama Playing For Keeps (375,000), Eyewitness News (370,000) and Pointless (227,000).

Over at SBS, it was once again trains doing the business, a repeat of Great British Railway Journeys pulling 259,000.
