Typically, those pesky tags inside your clothes give some anodyne ironing or dry-cleaning instruction.
Not so outdoor apparel player, Patagonia, who’s started stitching “vote the assholes” out into its labels ahead of the presidential elections in November.
Patagonia’s been a long and ardent supporter of climate issues and the tag is apparently an attack on climate denying politicans in the US, be they Democrats or Republicans.
Images of the tag began circulating on social media over the weekend and initially many believed it was a prank.
Not so said a spokesperson for the brand who said it was in reference to “politicians from any party who deny or disregard the climate crisis and ignore science”; although many see it as a thinly veiled dig at Donald Trump.
The tag appears on Patagonia’s men’s Regenerative Organic Stand-Up Shorts, which it started making in 1973. “We have been standing up to climate deniers for almost as long as we’ve been making those shorts,” a spokesperson told CNN.
And it’s not the first time Patagonia has had a shot at Trump. In 2017, it sued the president for his decision to dramatically roll back the protection of national monuments.
And judging by the social media reaction, people are big fans of Patagonia’s stance.
