Yesterday, the internet was in a frenzy over Russian Journalist Marina Ovsyannikova after she interrupted a live news report to protest the war.
Ovsyannikova bravely interrupted a channel one live news broadcast holding a sign that said, “Stop the war! Don’t believe propaganda! They’re lying to you here!”
It was brave, it was bold and it also made many people worry about what the consequences would be for Ovsyannikova.

However, so far it seems that the journalist has just been slapped with a fine.
CNBC reported that a Russian court has ruled that she will have to pay 30,000 rubles ($AU280).

Interestingly she wasn’t fined over interrupting the news but rather over the video that was posted afterwards, where she blamed Putin for the war.
The anti-war protester who crashed the news broadcast is Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor at Channel One, says @pchikov, whose legal defense foundation is going to defend her against charges of “discrediting the Russian armed forces.” She’s already at the police station. pic.twitter.com/h0uyDmMKdF

However, she isn’t out of the woods yet and could still face further charges for her actions. Only time will tell as it is rumoured that federal investigators are still weighing up on what to charge her with.
Marina Ovsyannikova got off today with a relatively small fine, but that was just for her prerecorded speech. Federal investigators are still weighing charges related to her on-air antiwar protest. She’s not out of the woods yet. Here are the woods: https://t.co/2DkJ8xZcVC

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds but nothing can take away from her bravery.
