Calling all game-nerds (and non-game nerds – we don’t discriminate here)! In case you haven’t heard, the legends over at UnLtd are launching a virtual gaming tournament – the Big Game. And, it’s all happening live on Tuesdays at 4pm.
What’s it entail? Basically, 24 teams across the industry will be competing over 5 weeks in a game of Rocket League, all live-streamed over Twitch. We’re not even going to attempt to understand what any of that means but we’re behind you, adland!
Each week, B&T will be bringing you some rather entertaining team profiles, from how the teams plan on warming up for the game (finger stretching?) to what their nutrition plan is.
You can watch the games here https://www.twitch.tv/unltdaus.
Without further ado, meet Team 10 (who unfortunately got kicked out last week).
Team:
Network 10 and ViacomCBS
Team members:
Tyler Knight – Senior Digital Producer
Guy Tesoriero – Sales
Vinessa Sestoso – Social Media Executive
Albie Abiog – Product Manager
Favourite game of all times:
Albie – Call of Duty series (except the ones set in the future)
Tyler – Super Smash Bros
Vinessa – Kingdom Hearts series
Guy – Total War series
What’s your team’s game plan for Big Game:
Albie – Try to not hit the ball through our own goal
Ty – Try to not get more air time than the ball
Vinessa – SCOOORRREE!!!! (More than the opposing team)
Guy – Focus, breathe, make things happen.
How has the team been preparing in the lead up to the Big Game:
e.g. physical fitness, mental preparation, nutrition plan
Albie – Watching lots of movies like The Mighty Ducks and Talladega Nights. Coffee helps.
Ty – practising blinking so my eyes don’t dry up before the big game (I always forget to blink when I’m concentrating).
Vinessa – Flexing the hand and stretching the fingers. They’ll need it.
Guy – A few practise games here and there with some buddies
What are your predictions for Big Game:
Albie – Hard to say as there have been a few dark horses and wildcards that we didn’t expect to come out on top from the grading round but I think there will be a few surprises
Ty – I’m not discounting anything. I know its going to be a big battle. I am ready for the balls of fury to be hit hard and fast.
Vinessa – It’s going to be an interesting one! There’s so many people with different gaming backgrounds so I’m excited to see all of the industry come together and battle off with rocket-powered cars!
Guy – It is going to come down to the wire that’s for sure! I think there are a few veterans in some teams ranks so the final should be very interesting.
What’s the one thing you wish people knew about gaming?
Albie – Depending on what the game is, it can be challenging and can help promote teamwork but it’s fun and mentally stimulating.
Ty – Gaming is a sport. It takes a lot of skill, practice and experience. Sure there is some luck but there are games where you need to dedicate hours to practice, play and theory in order to WIN.
Vinessa – People should never feel ashamed to say they are a gamer! Whether it’s mobile gaming or playing on a full-fledged gaming rig, playing video games is an expression of who you are! And that’s something to be proud of (you don’t want to be that person at a party who doesn’t know how to work a controller – right?)
Guy – Gaming is great, people love movies and books to get immersed in their worlds but video gaming for me will always take the cake. You can be whoever you want to be, wherever you want to be.
