Facebook and Seven partner for election news

Seven News has partnered with Facebook to integrate Australian’s political chatter on the social network into the TV station’s and Yahoo!7’s election coverage.

Facebook formed a similar partnership with CNN last year to cover the US election.

Seven’s coverage will now feature aggregated insights into what Australians are saying about the election on Facebook, trends that occur and Facebook polling.

A Facebook data dashboard is set to be built to create visual insights into what the voting public has to say. In addition to Seven News and Yahoo!7’s election page the information can also be found on the ‘Aussie Democracy’ Facebook page.

Mia Garlick, Facebook’s local head of communications, said there are 12 million Australians active on the social site.

“By integrating this in to Seven and Yahoo!7’s election coverage, this collaboration can provide Australians with the most insightful news resource for the 2013 federal election.”

Harry Burt, director of product Yahoo!7, added: “We know the way the Yahoo!7 audience views and consumes online content is changing. This partnership represents a highly engaging way we can deliver utility to our users and connect them to federal election content, conversations and experiences at any time and on any device.”
