Global streaming platform Twitch has announced Sunita Kaur as the company’s first APAC managing director.
Kaur joins Twitch from Spotify, where she was managing director of Southeast Asia and then VP of revenue in APAC over a six-year period.
“Asia is a burgeoning region for user-generated live content and gaming, and we are excited to deepen our investments with Sunita’s hire” said Twitch COO Sara Clemens.
“Sunita’s 20 years of experience in digital advertising and online services and communities that serve content creators in APAC make her the perfect leader for Twitch’s business in the region.”
Kaur will be based out of Twitch’s Singapore office and will oversee operations across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Twitch is proof that entertainment and media consumption habits around the world, including in APAC, have foundationally changed,” said Kaur.
“Young consumers in APAC are cutting the cord and are influenced by social media where the audience expects to play a part in entertainment they watch. This means the unique Twitch entertainment experience, one that fosters collaboration and community between content creator and audience, can support this consumer-led revolution of how content is delivered.”
Twitch has been slowly building its APAC presence in recent times since beginning local activities in 2014.
In November last year, the company announced Steve Ford as VP of APAC sales, to be based in Sydney.
Twitch has 15 million average daily visitors worldwide and already has a wide range of advertising partners and was acquired by Amazon for $US970 million in 2014.
Twitter has just experienced its fastest growth in revenue since 2014, with the social media platform benefiting from increased interest from advertisers. Revenue was up 74 per cent YoY, according to the company’s Q2 results, reaching $US1.19 billion ($1.6 billion) from $US683.4 million ($925 million) 12 months ago. The strong results came in the same […]
