On a quiet night on TV, it was Budget Battlers that took the top spot among the non-news programs (in terms of reach) with a total TV national reach of 1,382,000 and an average of 510,000.
Jess & Norm headed to Birchip – or as it is better known, the home of Australia’s best vanilla slice and Mallee Bull – to meet Maurice, a former school teacher who has dedicated countless hours to the local football club, taking on the jobs no one else notices – cleaning the clubrooms, lining the oval, restoring and running the old scoreboard.
The local hero was no brainer to receive a well-deserved renovation with the support of the whole town behind them.
Maurice’s kitchen might have been outdated, but much of it was still functional. With all white appliances once a trend, they have fallen out of fashion of late, but rather than strip the entire kitchen and replace every item – that could have taken up most of their budget – Norm and Jess spent just $55, refreshing the kitchen with a tin of heat-resistant paint.

While Budget Battles may have kept Aussie’s makeover dreams alive, it was Seven News that topped the night overall with a total TV national reach of 1,883,000 and a national average of 1,183,000.
