413,000 financially-minded Aussies tuned in to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg’s budget speech last night, adding some riveting spending action to Tuesday night’s TV lineup – unless you work in tourism or climate activism, that is.
However, it couldn’t beat last year’s coverage, which had 518,000 viewers according to OzTAM’s metro data.
The speech was aired by the ABC, whose top-performing telly was ABC News with 634,000.
Coming out on top overall was Seven News with 100, 900,000 viewers, followed by Nine News with 948,000 viewers.
A Current Affair had 683,000 viewers, putting it neck and neck with Lego Masters which also had 683,000.
It was Seven’s Home and Away that took silver in the entertainment telly battle, beating both MasterChef and Big Brother. Their numbers were 585,000, 573,000 and 558,000 respectively.
On MasterChef, Therese went home after failing to use her immunity pin on a botched dessert challenge, a decision sure to induce screaming at the TV in even the most seasoned of MasterChef viewers.
Over on Big Brother, there was more treachery and betrayal as Mel was sent home while Kate spat a croissant over Danny. Delicious!
The rest of Seven’s night had The Chase at 520,000 viewers while The Good Doctor had 294,000. For Nine, Hot Seat had 457,000 viewers and Central Intelligence had 297,000.
Over at 10, The Project had 478,000 viewers while 10 News First had 345,000.
Nine (all channels) won the night overall with 29 per cent of the daily share, followed closely by Seven (all channels) with 28 per cent. In third was Network 10 with 19 per cent, followed by the ABC network with 14 per cent and the SBS Network with eight per cent.
