Triple M WA’s Mitchell & Michael have successfully driven 3,400 kilometres through outback WA, from Bunbury to Kununurra – the equivalent distance of Perth to Melbourne – in a Tesla electric vehicle.
The duo completed their “Fast and the Fueless Tour” in 11 days, broadcasting from various locations along the way – including Geraldton, Carnarvon, Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek and Kununurra.
Averaging five hours of driving per day (perhaps due to that being their longest stint without having to charge the car), the team learnt the rules of the electric vehicle road along the way – the biggest lesson being ‘plan ahead’.
Mitchell said, “with many places only having one charge point, wait time can be doubled if you’re not first in line – and that’s assuming there IS a charge point. If not, using a normal power outlet is a very slow process for charging an electric vehicle.”
Triple M North West Content Director, Dan Cole, said: “We wanted to get Mitchell and Michael out into their broadcast area and a trip to the Ord Valley Muster in Kununurra was a great excuse.”
“When Best IT came on board, they offered us the use of a Tesla to get there and the tour quickly became a great opportunity to go green and promote electric vehicles in regional WA. Listeners got to follow the journey on air which sounded excellent and the social media and video content online was fantastic.”
Mitchell & Michael completed their “Fast and the Fueless Tour” on Saturday 22 May and attended this year’s Kimberley Moon Experience on Saturday night. The duo can be heard from 6am to 9am on Triple M WA.
