Total Beauty Twitter Account Confuses Whoopi Goldberg With Oprah

The Oscars 2016 has started and brands are already embarrassing themselves on social media. LA Cosmetic website Total Beauty tweeted how much they loved Oprah’s tattoos, unfortunately the brand confused Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah.

This tweet follows the controversy surrounding #OscarsSoWhite, where for the second year in a row, no actors of colour were given the Oscar nod in any of the acting categories. In the past 87 years of the Oscar awards, there have been only 32 African-American winners out of 2,900 candidates.

According to its Twitter page, Total Beauty “brings you expert advice, beauty samples & deals, how-to tips & tricks, and thousands of unbiased product reviews”. The brand is also engaging in some #Oscars tweeting:

Here’s a screenshot, just in case Total Beauty decides to delete the tweet:

Twitter is having its own Oscar party over the tweet:

This isn’t the first time a brand has tweeted something racist during the 2016 Awards circuit. MTV Australia recently tweeted during the Golden Globes that they couldn’t understand Latina actresses Eva Longoria and America Ferrera.  The Total Beauty tweet has been deleted.
