Channel Nine has apologised to Gladys Berejiklian after a TV news segment wrongly named a dishevelled COVID conspirator after the NSW Premier.
The tin foil hat wearing chap, Joe McHale, was being interviewed by Nine news on Friday afternoon, where he boldly declared COVID was a “scam”. Nine then mistakenly labelled McHale as the NSW premier.
Fortunately, Berejiklian saw the funny side, posting an image of the blunder on her Twitter feed alongside the caption, “Too long between appointments with the beautician.”
Over the weekend, Nine’s news director Darren Wick apologised to Berejiklian for the blunder blaming the gaffe on studio automation.
“It’s great that she’s such a terrific sport about it,” said Wick who’s had a tough time of things of late following a much publicised drink driving offence following a work function.
“[It was] clearly a mistake for which we apologise to the premier,” Wick told The Daily Telegraph.
Fans of Berejiklian’s Twitter page quickly came out in support of the humorous tweet.
“You’re under too much stress,” one fan responded.
“When the mask finally comes off – we see the real you,” another joked.
“Post-COVID effect. This is each one of us, premier,” penned another.
“I am sure there must have been many days last year that you felt like that premier,” another wrote.
While another added: “Poor ol’ Gladys – the stress of the pandemic is finally getting to her.”
