“There Is Too Much Gambling Advertising”: Tabcorp Chairwoman

Tabcorp chairwoman Paula Dwyer has called for less gambling advertising and create a national regulatory framework at Tabcorps’ annual general meeting.

Dwyer said the 34 per cent jump in wagering advertising in the last year to $89 million was a cause for concern.

“Our concern is not only that advertising is regulated differently in every state and territory,” she said. “We also share the community’s view that there is too much gambling advertising.”

Dwyer said the government needs to focus its attention on the estimated 2,500 unlicensed wagering operators taking bets from Australian punters.

“We believe wagering operators should be licensed in Australia if they are to take bets from Australian residents. This would largely address the problem of unlicensed offshore operators, whose activities pose a threat to racing and sports integrity.”
