The first ever episode of The Bachelorette Australia graced TV screens last night to an audience of 875,000, according to OzTam preliminary figures.

While it wasn’t enough to win the night, as Seven’s X Factor and ABC’s Gruen out performed it, it had enough eyeballs to squeeze past the debut of this year’s The Bachelor, which had 846,000.

However, the finale of the The Bachelor, which was only last week, was a winner as NSW Premier Mike Baird got in on the action and live-tweeted the event while he was at home nursing the “man-flu”.

Australia’s first Bachelorette Sam Frost met her lads of the show, already passing off two of them in the first rose ceremony.

There was a big hoo-hah in the second season of The Bachelor when Frost met Bach Blake Garvey. After declaring his love for her and proposing to her, Garvey effectively dumped her for another one of the contestants.

Social media obviously got into the action of last night’s program, with the Queensland Police Department department arguably winning the night with this tweet.
