An Optus advertising campaign which claimed the network was “covering more of Australia than ever before” is at the centre of a lawsuit between Telstra and Singtel Optus.
Telstra initiated the legal action last week, according to the Herald, alleging the ads imply Optus has greater coverage than Telstra.
Telstra’s mobile network covers 99.5 per cent of the country, while Optus covers 98.5 per cent.
According to the report, Telstra is seeking a court order restraining Optus from making statements hinting on network superiority.
Although Optus is yet to respond to the claims in court, company VP of regulatory and public affairs Andrew Sheridan told Mobile World Live the operator would “continue to talk it [the network] up because it provides coverage where it matters most to people”.
Optus also appeared to double down on the claims made in the ads, uploading a series of the video clips to its YouTube page yesterday [see below].
