Uber Moves Away From Ride-Sharing, Now Includes Delivery Service

Uber has announced it will expand its application program interface (API) to encourage other app developers to use the ride-sharing app as a delivery service, the project is called UberRUSH.

Business will be able to integrate UberRUSH one-hour delivery service by adding a few lines of code into its existing app infrastructure and digital products.

Companies such as Nordstrom, T-Mobile, 1-800-Flowers and food delivery company Eat Street have all jumped on UberRUSH API. These Uber partners are already running pilots in San Francisco, Chicago and NYC.

Uber’s Head of UberEVERYTHING, Jason Droege said in a statement on the blog: “We’re excited about how this product supports local businesses, but we also know that a lot of companies – and their customers – are looking for an easy way to get items delivered more quickly.

“These companies are tapping into the UberRUSH API to ensure your items or meals get to you quickly. Even for the most sophisticated and complex logistics companies, we believe getting packages from A to B should be as easy as getting a ride.”

Uber’s intention is to one day roll out UberRUSH globally.
