Google Announces Two Big Appointments

Google has announced Aisling Finch as the new head of marketing for Australia and New Zealand, as Lucinda Barlow is promoted to a new position of global director of YouTube marketing in California.

Barlow has led Google’s marketing in Australia and New Zealand for the last five years. She is about to take on a new global role in California, as global marketing director for YouTube. She brings 17 years experience working in Internet and mobile in Asia, the US and UK.

Before joining Google, Lucinda was vice president marketing for Symbian where she led a global team promoting smartphone technology. She has worked in two Internet start-ups and at BHP as a mission critical systems engineer.

Simon Kahn, Chief Marketing Officer, Google Asia Pacific said: “Lucinda Barlow has led Google’s marketing in Australia and New Zealand since September 2010. She will take up a new role as global director, YouTube marketing, based in San Bruno, California.

“Lucinda will drive the marketing vision and execution for YouTube’s core ad-supported business by making YouTube a daily habit for a billion users globally. Lucinda and her team will be responsible for the YouTube brand which has the biggest social presence in the world today, as well as marketing new mobile product innovations such as Live, VR, Community, Living Room, and Gaming. We’ll miss Lucinda immensely, but we’re thrilled for her new opportunity.

Barlow commented on her big move: “I couldn’t be more excited to join YouTube, a brand I love. Today, YouTube creates a culture that stands up for freedom of expression, belonging and opportunity.”

Finch has over 17 years marketing experience in telco, tech and media. Most recently, she has been leading Media across Asia-Pacific, ensuring Google marketing delivers best-in-class media strategy and execution. Finch joined Google six years ago, and has worked across Europe and Asia-Pacific to grow the Android ecosystem and drive consumers’ engagement with key Google apps. Prior to Google, she spent 10 years at Telstra, where she held various roles in strategy, finance, marketing, and retail & online channels.

Aisling is a talented leader, who brings positive energy and strategic thinking to any challenge. She will be responsible for marketing in Australia and NZ, driving consumer and business engagement through effective campaigns, and will be a steward for our Google, Android and YouTube brands.”

Finch commented on her new role at Google ANZ: “I am incredibly excited about this new role and the opportunity to continue connecting consumers and businesses with Google, Android and YouTube products.”

Finch will start her role in May 30.
