Facebook’s Latest Campaign Shows Us Real-World Privacy And Online Privacy Aren’t All That Different

Following the announcement of its new ‘off-Facebook’ privacy controls, Facebook has kicked off a brand new campaign in the UK promoting the tagline ‘privacy is personal’.

The campaign sets out to educate the public on Facebook’s various privacy tools, after the company found 22 per cent of Brits didn’t know how to use privacy tools on social media.

The video show real-life examples of privacy controls (such as using a towel to get changed on what looks like a cold English beach) and compares them with Facebook’s privacy controls.

The social media giant has also opened Facebook Cafés around the country, where members of the public can come in and enjoy a free coffee while they go through their privacy controls.

Messaging around privacy has featured prominently in Facebook’s marketing material since the Cambridge Analytica scandal last year.

In Australia, Facebook ran the ‘Here Together‘ campaign last year to promote notions of privacy, safety and integrity on the platform.

    1. If privacy is personal then why they are asking collecting tons of data and using AI to predict the behavior of the individuals. I think it is just a brand gimmick. Most of us know that Facebook is keeping tabs not only on those individual who have signed up but also the people who have not signed up for the service.

It is better to let go of this service. I just deleted the facebook account and I want all people who are focused toward the privacy follow the same.
