ABC News On Facebook Messenger Launches

Launching just in time for Melbourne Cup, the public broadcaster ABC News has created a new way for Australians to stay across the news with a dedicated news service on Facebook Messenger.

With ABC News on Messenger, mobile users will now be able to get the latest headlines and stories, whenever they want, in a fast, informative and conversational format.

The ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie, on Friday night at The Wheeler Centre, announced the partnership: “One very exciting way we are collaborating to reach our audiences is through the launch of a dedicated news service with third-party provider Chatfuel and available on Facebook Messenger which goes live in time for the Melbourne Cup next week.”

Guthrie outlined the direction for the ABC in the era of social and mobile media- concentrating on Facebook Messenger.

Summary:

Each morning you can get a summary sent to you of what’s making news to get you up-to-speed ASAP, at a time that suits you.

We can also tell you when major news breaks, so you can finally conquer your FOMO. Don’t worry, this will only be for the really big stuff.

You can also receive news on topics you want to follow. This is an easy way to stay in the know on the news you care about.

We keep updating throughout the day and evening. So you can get a quick look at what’s happening anytime that suits you.

You can get a sneak peek at the events we know are on the news agenda.

If you need a lighter frame of mind, you can get a hit of good news from across Australia and the world.

If you have a minute or two up your sleeve, you can get “long reads”

If you want to better understand the world around you, or see a new POV, you can get our latest “analysis” or “opinion” at any time.
