TV Viewing Habits Moving Mobile Says New Yahoo7 Survey

The annual Yahoo7 Companion TV Survey has found that 24 per cent of Aussies are not watching their favourite programmes on the TV in their living room. a quarter of Australians prefer to watch TV on their smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Among the 1,200 Australians surveyed, 52 per cent of the millennials (16-34 year olds) regularly watched TV shows on mobile devices- a leap from 17 per cent in 2013.

The attraction of mobile devices is the flexibility that it provides. Viewing on-the-go has become a major trend, with 53 per cent of respondents regularly using their smartphones and tablets to watch TV during their commute.

The research also found that a quarter of Aussies are using their mobile devices to get the gossip on their favourite celebrity and actor whilst watching them on TV.

The majority of viewers (75 per cent) use their mobile to check facts on the programme- including story lines, trivia, actors and statistics while almost 28 per cent want to see photos of celebrities and actors.

Caroline Casey, director of product and audience at Yahoo7, said: “The survey results give us a deeper insight into audience viewing habits when watching and interacting with TV, enabling us to provide the best user experience possible.”
