Sunday Night TV: Married At First Sight Twists The Knife Into MKR

The king has lost his crown! Well, the once unbeatable My Kitchen Rules has well and truly been de-throned as it fell under the million mark for the first time in its seven year history last night.

According to OzTam figures, the cooking stalwart could only manage 968,000 for Seven, while its bitter rival, Nine’s Married At First Sight, won the honours snaring 1.16 million. However, today’s a public holiday in South Australia, Victoria and the ACT, which may have added to many program’s woes.

It follows on from last Friday’s revelations that MKR contestant Betty Banks has unwittingly found herself in a hardcore porn scandal.

It wasn’t all bad news for Seven who still won the night with 30.3 per cent of viewers (although none of its shows went over the million-mark), Nine was a close second with 29.5 per cent. The ABC again beat Ten (17.7 per cent versus 17 per cent) and SBS had a disappointing Sunday with just 5.5 per cent.

Ten’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here was third in its slot with 705,000 rising to 833,000 for the elimination. The rest of Ten’s programs proved rather lacklustre with Bull landing 458,000, Bondi Rescue was 360,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 344,000 and NCIS: New Orleans was 319,000.

The ABC, who again beat Ten, had a solid night. Vera landed 794,000, ABC News had 715,000 and Grand Designs bought in 692,000 viewers.
