Study: The Ys Would Forgo Travel & Voting To Erase Student Debt (But Not Move Back Home)

A new study into the finances of American Millennials (those aged 18-34) has revealed the extraordinary sacrifices they would go to to have their student loans erased.

The study by personal finance website Credible has revealed that half of respondents would give up the right to vote in the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections to have the slate wiped clean.

Other measures included giving up ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft (44 per cent) and overseas travel for the next five years (42 per cent.)

According to recent data, 44 million Americans have a student debt tallying to $US1.3 trillion. The average debt for each student is said to be $US37,172.

But one thing the Ys won’t do to erase their debts is move back in with their parents for five years (27 per cent saying they would) and only 13 per cent would give up texting.

Of the 500 people surveyed, 8.2 per cent said they’d give up nothing and would prefer to simply pay their loans off.
