SPC Ardmona Tinned Tomatoes Recalled Because They Might Explode All Over You

Horror of horrors, don’t open your bloody SPC Ardmona tinned tomatoes – they very well might explode on you.

The popular brand, which flogs tasty tinned tomatoes, has recalled a single batch of 400 gram Peeled Vine Ripened Tomatoes, claiming they might be hazardous and “cause injury”.

The Aussie-grown toms have been sold in Coles, Woollies and independent supermarkets, with the code ‘TOM W/P 428580 007CM’ on the tin’s base.

“Due to increased pressure in the can caused by a breakdown in the can lining integrity, these food products may cause injury when opening,” SPC said in a statement.

“No other Ardmona products, or any other SPC products, are affected,” it added, saying the issue was with the packaging and not the food itself.

It’s a minor setback for the Aussie food company, which found success in February after a long fight to get the federal government to apply anti-dumping measures to two large importers of Italian tinned tomatoes.

La Doria and Feger di Gerardo Ferraioli, which when combined actually account for half the tinned tomatoes imported into Australia, were slammed with dumping duties of 4.5 per cent and 8.4 per cent respectively after they were found to be selling their products for less than they sell for in Italy.

Customers are encouraged to dispose of the products and contact SPC on 1800 805 168.
