Ten may have resurrected her TV career with this year’s The Bachelorette, however, Nine have pounced on Sophie Monk, recruiting her as host of its dating show Love Island.
Monk’s decision to host the controversial show follows news that none other than Shane Warne was a likely candidate for the program due to air on 9Go! and 9Now sometime in 2018.
Monk announced her shift to Nine on its Today show this morning who was arguably keen to pull one back from rival Ten who sensationally signed Lisa Wilkinson in September. Monk will reportedly also work on Nine’s women’s lifestyle site 9Honey.
“It’s just young people from 18 to 35 who are going to hook up on an island,” she told hosts Deb Knight and Tim Gilbert.
“Australia kind of chooses who is in love… I’m so excited to watch it and be on the other side for once,” she said.
The Australian series of Love Island, like its UK counterpart, will also be shot in Spain. “How awesome will it be to work in Spain in summer. Love Island is like nothing Australia has ever had, it’s right up my alley! I’m so excited, it’s ridiculous,” Monk said.
