Soft Drink Maker Forced To Apologise After ‘Don’t Be A Can’t’ Campaign

Scotland’s gift to the soft-drink world, Irn-Bru, has again found itself in a spot of bother after, unsurprisingly, it’s new “Don’t be a can’t” campaign was flooded with complaints.

The energy drink often courts controversy with its marketing – which unashamedly target young men – and again appears to overstepped the mark with two new TVCs unveiled to TV viewers this week.

The ads are the work of Scottish agency Leith and feature men urging women to “Don’t be a can’t” – a clear play on the c-word.

According to The Edinburgh News the ad had received a string of complaints to the Advertising Standards Agency, despite airing after 7pm.

Interestingly, the newspaper ran an online poll of its readers to gauge the ad’s offensiveness, with 95 per cent agreeing they had no problems with it.

An Irn-Bru spokeswoman adding: “Our advertising always plays up Irn-Bru’s cheeky sense of humour and our latest campaign is no different.

“It’s never our intention to offend so we’re sorry if our new advert hit the wrong note with a few people. “But we hope most fans will enjoy this spin on positive thinking in the spirit it is intended.”
