Consumer goods manufacturer SodaStream has hit back at a homophobic tweet from a leading ‘No’ campaigner.
Australian political activist and prominent social conservative Lyle Shelton shared a story from Packing News spruiking the new bottles from SodaStream.
According to the article, “The ‘Love is Love’ bottles portray same-sex families by including two ‘parent’ one-litre bottles and one ‘child’ half-litre bottles imprinted with depictions of family characters from an accompanying animated video.”
SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum said the company was committed to celebrating bonds across all nationalities, religions and sexual orientations.
“We hope this campaign will inspire communication and help us all join together to spread a message of love,” he said.
Though Shelton was less-than-impressed with the new range, claiming they “celebrate forced motherlessness”.
Adding, “[Motherlessness is] something civil society should never celebrate.”
“But we are in a brave new world that crushes the rights of children and punishes anyone who does not celebrate the new world order.”
This also celebrates forced motherlessness, something civil society should never celebrate. But we are in a brave new world that crushes the rights of children & punishes anyone who does not celebrate the new ?️? world order. https://t.co/1hv4n2YdLc

SodaStream promptly responded with an image of a dated product, encouraging Shelton to head back to the era pictured.
The tweet said, “Lyle, mate! Let’s take your conversation offline and back to an era when this SodaStream machine was all the range #LoveIsLove”.
