Coke’s “Share a Coke” promo – which originated in Australia – has proven so successful in the US that the brand in America has just announced a much larger expansion of the iteration.
The promo sees the traditional Coke labelling replaced with people’s names; a marketing stunt that began in Australia in 2011 and has since gone global. It was originally the brainchild of Ogilvy & Mather Sydney.
The US campaign now features over 1000 names and will feature across its Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero brands.
In 2014, the promotion lifted sales of name-branded Coke in the US by a reported 19 per cent. In 2015, there’s now a www.shareacoke.com site which enables people to recommend names to be included. However, Coke says it is heavily moderated and nothing vulgar will be approved.
And not just names, this year you can also score a ‘Sis’, a ‘Better Half’ and a ‘Class of 2015’ even if you’re single, male and didn’t even graduate in 2015.
