Shane Warne Labels Waleed Aly An “Arrogant Cretin” In Scathing Rebuke

Cricket great and Foxtel commentator Shane Warne has labelled The Project’s Waleed Aly an “arrogant cretan (sic)” after the TV host was nominated by the AFL to be part of a panel that would look at possible rule changes to the game.

Aly’s name was among a host of ex-players and commentators who AFL chiefs wanted to report over on-field congestion and a lack of scoring that many believe are becoming blights on matches for spectators.

However, Warne – a keen AFL supporter and avid St Kilda fan – lashed the proposal to include Aly after it was reported on Melbourne’s The Herald Sun.

In a tweet last night, Warne wrote: “I love AFL football like so many other people – please tell me this is fake news that this arrogant cretan (sic) is in no way involved on any level!”

Aly has not responded to Warne’s attack.

In Aly’s defence, he, too, is a keen AFL supporter and apparently had done similar work with Cricket Australia about fans’ reactions to the Big Bash prior to its launch in 2011.

And it wasn’t just Warnie who had his feathers ruffled by the decision. Basketball great Andrew Bogut sarcastically tweeted, “I love your sense of humour!” at the decision to include Aly.

And, judging by some social media comments, Warne and Bogut were not alone in their displeasure. Check out more of the feedback below:
