Yesterday Seven West Media hosted its yearly Upfronts, and it was a content-heavy extravaganza.
The event was at Hoyts, so media buyers and trade journalists were armed with popcorn, choc tops and wine, and yes, Sonia Kruger was there, and Manu from My Kitchen Rules.
Instead of doing the traditional live stage, Seven had created a video, well, movie that went for around an hour.
The film showcased what Seven was offering for the year. It was punchy, quick and actually really effective. Plus, nothing like being in a dark movie theatre to keep people’s attention.
The movie format meant that Seven staff explained the benefits of Seven while they were also on set. For instance, James Warburton hosted a board meeting to tell everyone why Seven is stronger than ever.
Kurt Burnett was strolling around the set of Seven’s most classic shows. It was a clever move. It showcased Seven while arming eager ears with facts. Sonia Kruger travelled everywhere, from Big Brother to Farmer Wants A Wife.
Seven then launched into its 2023 plans. Content-wise, Australian Idol is returning. Jim Jefferies is hosting a quiz show.
Becky Lucas and Stephen Curry are hosting a show about Balloon Art! Clearly, the show is Seven’s answer to LegoMasters, but it looks so silly, that it has the potential to be a hit. In A Masked Singer kind of way.
Seven’s also bringing back old favourites SAS Australia, Big Brother and My Kitchen Rules. The big news of the day was that Seven has teamed up with NBC Universal to launch 7Brava to get young women tuning in to the station.
Seven has also announced it has signed a multi-year content deal with NBC Universal.
