Is Seven’s Seven Year Switch The New Biggest Loser As Ratings Tank?

It’s been a tough year for the TV networks and an even tougher year for some of their homegrown reality shows with Seven’s marital problem program Seven Year Switch suffering severe second-year syndrome.

Last night Seven Year Switch managed only 484,000 viewers according to OzTam figures, putting it in the dangerous “under 500K” kill zone.

More alarmingly for the show, it’s now down 42 per cent compared to its 2016 average of 828,000.

It could be argued viewers are suffering a bout of relationship show fatigue, however, the success of Nine’s Married At First Sight this year would suggest otherwise.

In other numbers from last night, MasterChef clawed back from a disappointing Sunday scoring 861,000 viewers for Monday. However, it was still beaten by Nine’s The Voice (1.11 million) and Seven’s House Rules (874,000).

The Voice also continues to splutter for Nine, with viewer numbers down 14 per cent compared with the same point in 2016.

However, the real surprise of Monday night was the return of Ten’s comedy series Have You Being Paying Attention? that scored a very respectable 839,000 and even managed to pip MasterChef.

Nine won the night with 28.2 per cent viewer share, followed by Seven with 27.2 per cent, Ten snared a respectable 21.3 per cent, the ABC 17.7 per cent and SBS 5.6 per cent.
